From Herbs & Sympathy to The Black Cat Apothecary
The Black Cat Apothecary did not begin from nothing. Our roots were planted years ago at Herbs & Sympathy, where herbal knowledge, community, curiosity, and a genuine love for the plants shaped the work we do today.
Under the guidance and knowledge of Faith Peck, M.S., Herbs & Sympathy became a place where people could ask questions, learn about herbs, discover thoughtfully crafted products, and find a little bit of community along the way.
For me, those years became an education far beyond books. They were days spent blending teas, filling capsules, working with herbs, talking with customers, teaching and learning, making mistakes, growing, and discovering just how deeply this work had become part of my life.
When Faith decided it was time to retire and the chapter of Herbs & Sympathy came to its close, I knew the work wasn't finished.
It simply needed room to become something new.
A New Chapter
The Black Cat Apothecary is the next evolution of those roots.
We continue many of the familiar herbs, teas, capsules, tinctures, salves, and small-batch preparations our longtime customers have come to know, while slowly creating an apothecary with an identity and rhythm of its own.
That means growing intentionally rather than quickly. It means honoring traditional herbal knowledge while continuing to learn. It means making products in small batches, being transparent about what we do, and remembering that there is a human being on both sides of every order.
And it means allowing this little apothecary to change as life changes.

Herbs & Sympathy will always be part of our story. We don't need to erase the old chapter to begin the new one.
The Black Cat Apothecary carries those roots forward with gratitude — while making space for new ideas, new stories, and a new way of doing things.
This is an apothecary built around herbs, curiosity, community, creativity, and the belief that growth doesn't always happen in a straight line.
Sometimes things end.
Sometimes we begin again.
And sometimes, from everything that came before, something entirely new rises.
